Pennsylvania Governor Signs Bill to Protect Athletes from Sudden Death

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law a bill designed to protect student-athletes with undetected heart conditions from sudden death while playing sports. House Bill 1610, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act, became the law during a ceremonial signing in Norristown, Pa. The governor's office said undetected heart conditions claim 7,000 young lives each year nationwide. More

At the time, adrenaline told him he could throw some more, but after 114 pitches in 813 shutout innings — plus his pregame bullpen session and the between-innings warm-ups — he could call it a day.
