The Presidential Race is On

Terry Noonan, MS, ATC, ART, and Jim Thornton, MS, ATC, PES, are the next NATA presidential candidates. The election runs from Sept. 1-29. Voters will receive an email with their customized login, which will allow them to vote online. Don't really know the candidates? Live Q&A webinars for each candidate will begin with Noonan at 7:30 p.m. Central on Aug. 24. and be followed by Thornton at 7:30 p.m. Central on Aug. 25. Rep. Edolphus "Ed" Towns (NY-10) introduced the Athletic Trainers' Equal Access to Medicare Act of 2011 (HR 2785) to the House of Representatives on Aug. 1. HR 2785 will ensure Medicare beneficiaries have better access to quality health care provided by athletic trainers and will allow physicians, clinics and hospitals to meet the requisite Medicare standards for reimbursement. The knee-jerk reactions moved as swiftly as a no-huddle offense. Football should start later in the year. Schools should be required to staff athletic trainers. Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Korey Stringer died of complications from heat stroke during training camp 10 years ago this month. Sadly, August has proved deadly again: Six high school football players and one coach have died during this summer's historic heat wave, though cause of death is not yet certain in every case. If it turns out heat was a factor in the deaths of all six players that would be double the annual death rate of recent years. More
