Eastern resource officer steps up for middle school athletes

For the last year-and-a-half, one resource officer at Eastern Middle School has transitioned into a major role in the school’s athletics program, a role where he said he can have a deeper impact on the kids’ lives. Josh Myers, an Eastern grad himself, stepped up to coach the seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ basketball and football teams for the past two seasons. He credited his own father’s love for and involvement in youth sports for wanting to get involved himself.

High school football coaches almost 'helpless' in changing recruiting landscape

Oxford coach Keith Etheredge summed up the issues many high school football coaches are facing in an effort to get their student-athletes recruited during the 2020-2021 cycle.
“In some ways, you are helpless,” Etheredge said. “What has killed high school recruiting is the transfer portal,” Etheredge said. “A lot of schools are now looking in the portal for transfers who already have experience."

CIF bylaw change forbids student-athletes from participating in both high school and club sports

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has updated a bylaw that now forbids student-athletes from participating in both high school sports and club sports for health reasons related to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a press release issued by the CIF, “athletes and coaches should cohort by team, and refrain from participating with more than one team over the same season or time period.”
