Syracuse.com
As a standout football player and wrestler at Central Valley Academy, Andy Klosner has enjoyed his share of athletic glory.
This fall, he added one he never would have expected to that list.
Klosner scored a goal off a penalty kick for CVA. While that feat alone might seem rather mundane, it has to be evaluated in the context of his soccer experience before this fall.
Which, in a word, was none.

Tennessee high school athletic association to vote on allowing religious headgear
Nashville Tennessean
The Tennessee high school athletic association is in the beginning process of potentially changing a rule that would allow athletes to wear headgear for religious purposes without seeking permission from its office.
That decision comes on the heels of a Nashville high school volleyball player, who last month was not permitted to play in a game because she wore a hijab because of her religious beliefs. Her school hadn't asked for permission from the state high school association for her to wear it.

What experts say about exercising after a COVID-19 diagnosis
Triathlete
When Jordan D. Metzl, MD, and his colleagues at the HSS Sports Medicine Institute published their guidelines to returning to activity after recovering from COVID-19 in August, he never imagined the response he’d get from patients. After working with athletes in their own practices, the HSS team knew it was important to create a framework for recreational athletes who had mild to moderate coronavirus, to understand how to best return to activity safely.

Everybody's getting their temperature taken, but why is nobody's actually 98.6 degrees?
By Amanda Kowalski
You get your temperature taken at the doctor’s office, at your hairdresser, nail salon and even before you can watch a high school football game. In the months since the outbreak of COVID-19, you’ve probably had your temperature taken more than all the years of your life before this — combined. And you might have noticed something — you’re not normal. When it comes to body temperature, normal temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit or 37 degrees Celsius. Chances are you aren’t, though, are you? Well, don’t worry, nobody else is either.

University of Illinois via ScienceDaily
Researchers studied the effects of a 12-week exercise regimen on 148 active-duty Air Force airmen, half of whom also received a twice-daily nutrient beverage that included protein; the omega-3 fatty acid, DHA; lutein; phospholipids; vitamin D; B vitamins and other micronutrients; along with a muscle-promoting compound known as HMB. Both groups improved in physical and cognitive function, with added gains among those who regularly consumed the nutritional beverage, the team reports.
