Federal Way schools to pay $5M to family of student who died at football practice
The Seattle Times
Federal Way Public Schools will pay $5.25 million to the family of a high school student who died from sudden cardiac arrest suffered at a summer football practice in 2018.
Allen Harris, a 16-year-old sophomore, was participating in a conditioning practice on an “exceptionally hot” July 24 afternoon when he collapsed and suffered a seizure after completing several sets of wind sprints.

WIAA votes unanimously to sanction lacrosse as a high school sport

Starting in 2023, the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) will sanction one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
In a tweet, the association said the WIAA Board of Control unanimously approved of sanctioning the sport for both boys and girls.

North Dakota basketball coaches react to 3-class proposal

Some local coaches said a three-class system makes the game more fair for some smaller schools than the current two-class system, while one coach said it doesn't affect his school in a significant way.
On Dec. 1, the North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors met and voted to accept a three-class system for boys and girls basketball.

PIAA looks to youth with junior officials program

In an effort to combat its problem of a dwindling number of available sports officials, as well as to encourage young people to pursue the profession, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has begun a Junior Officials Program for individuals ages 16-17.
By passing an online test with a minimum score of 70 percent, the teenagers can be assigned an officiating mentor and become eligible to officiate in all PIAA sports events for athletes in grades 7 through 9.
