However, while women’s college athletics have made huge strides in the last 50 years, the bulk of the media attention and endorsement money has still gone to male athletes, especially those playing football or basketball.

Higley assistant football coach makes makes an impact on and off the field

Though often billed as a star, a quarterback’s true role on a football team’s offense is to facilitate the success of others. Whether passing to wide receivers or handing off to a running back, a good quarterback is graded on what they have helped others achieve.
For Higley’s 20-year-old former quarterback Jacob Sarmiento, now the freshman football team’s offensive coordinator, it was a penchant for helping others that made leading an offense so seamless and now makes coaching so fulfilling.

Field hockey: Four central Maine coaches retire after decades of success

The high school field hockey season has come and gone, and so, too, have the careers of four veteran coaches in central Maine.
Sharon Gallant (Gardiner), Sharon Coulton (Winthrop), Gloria Hewitt (Mount View) and Jody Harmon (Mt. Blue) are retiring, leaving a big void in the sport. The four coaches combined to win 689 games over parts of five decades in the sport.

Newton High School football players and coaches help with toy drive

Newton High School football players and coaches joined teams from area high schools that recently stopped by Project Self-Sufficiency to help set up the Season of Hope Toy Shop to benefit low-income children in Sussex and Warren counties. The players and coaches hauled boxes, set up displays, packed resource bags, and even delivered a generous monetary donation. The teams represented the Super Football Conference, an organization of 113 schools in northern New Jersey which is dedicated to developing student athletes on a conference, state, and national level.
