Future Leaders Scholarship Application
ASFPM Foundation
The ASFPM Foundation has opened a new application period for the 2022 Future Leaders Scholarship (FLS). Applications are due by April 18, 2022. We need applicants! The ASFPM Foundation needs the ASFPM Chapters help.
Please share this news with your members, any organizations, colleges or universities that you or your chapter are associated with, including national associations, STEMs, student groups, NGOs, and businesses. WE CAN ALL SHARE WITH AT LEAST ONE ORGANIZATION!
Most important:
- The FLS is up to $20,000 per year for two years available to a student entering their junior year in a 4-year undergraduate degree program or entering the last two years of a 5-year or dual degree undergraduate program. The scholarship will pay tuition and living expenses.
- The FLS is for any degree program that supports the Foundation’s vision of reducing the risk and impacts of floods on people and communities. The FLS is not just for engineers.
- Visit the FLS page for details. An online application is required. A PDF of the application is available here and it is also attached. Application deadline is April 18, 2022.

Report: More than 7% of New Jersey bridges are 'structurally deficient'

Roughly 7.1% of bridges in New Jersey are “structurally deficient,” meaning critical elements are in poor – or worse – condition.
The finding is included in a recent report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). To compile its findings, the group analyzed the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) 2021 National Bridge Inventory (NBI) data.

Also, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Board has approved a new ambassador program to promote system safety. New Jersey Alliance for Action on Feb. 25 recognized NJ Transit with Leading Capital Construction awards for its work on the Port North Bridge Project Construction Phase and on the Lyndhurst and Perth Amboy station projects.

The goal of these camps was to teach young girls how to code robots, design catapults, and even build bridges.
At the Discovery Lab's "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" workshop, girls from six to twelve years old worked with an adult mentor to solve different engineering challenges.
