Ocean Wind 1 awards 1st construction contracts

In a significant development for New Jersey’s first offshore wind project, as well as the future of the rapidly expanding clean energy sector in the state, Ocean Wind 1 announced the awarding of its first three major construction projects April 25.
Ocean Wind 1 is a joint venture between Ørsted and PSEG, which is expected provide clean energy to 500,000 homes while also delivering thousands of jobs. Another goal of the 1,100-megawatt wind farm is to ramp up supply chain initiatives, such as the EEW monopile manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro.

Governor Phil Murphy, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett, Speaker Craig Coughlin, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, and other state and local officials today celebrated the groundbreaking on major renovations to transform the Perth Amboy Train Station into a modern, customer-focused, and fully-accessible facility. Renovations will include the construction of two new high-level platforms, four new elevators, and additional ramps and stairs to provide greater access to the station’s platforms.

Energy to fund development of climate-friendly grid security and resilience

The Biden administration is committing $12 million for academic institutions and the private sector to research, develop and demonstrate technologies that can make an electric grid distributing energy from cleaner sources less vulnerable to cyberattack.
“Investing in cutting-edge cyber security technology keeps us at the forefront of global innovation and protects America’s power grid in the face of increasing cyber threats from abroad,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said.

The information will help inform the program development and execution of Section 40511 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that is related to implementing energy codes.

Biden administration amps up efforts to reduce aquatic trash

Nuclear power plant to host direct air carbon capture study for DOE

Constellation and several partners will receive $2.5 million in U.S. Department of Energy funding to study direct air capture technology at the company’s Byron nuclear plant in northern Illinois.
Although nuclear plants do not produce any carbon emissions, direct air capture would remove CO2 directly from the atmosphere, a possible next-generation technology being explored to help combat the climate crisis.
