The proposed rule would lower the permissible exposure limit (PEL) to 50 micrograms of respirable crystalline silica per cubic meter of air for both general industry and construction worksites.
ACA Submits Comments on Canadian Proposed Regulations Amending the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations
The proposed changes are designed to respond to the Transportation Safety Board's recommendations for enhanced information readily available to first responders – a recommendation that stems from the incident at Lac-Megantic.
ACA Attends Hearing on Chemical Security and Drinking Water Protection Act
The Chemical Safety and Drinking Water Protection Act calls for states to establish programs under the Safe Drinking Water Act that set out minimum requirements for construction standards; inspections; emergency response plans; employee training; and acceptable standards of good design, construction, and maintenance for chemical storage facilities.

DHS to Contact Tier 3 & 4 CFATS Facilities as Authorization Inspections Ramp up
Over the past year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Securty (DHS) has significantly increased the operational pace of its Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program and is now conducting approximately 100 Authorization Inspections per month.

The ACC Offers Pre-Conference Education Sessions
The American Coatings CONFERENCE will offer 11 pre-conference tutorials on Monday, April 7, 2014. The lectures offer in-depth insight into a variety of topics, including antimicrobial surfaces, easy-to-clean coatings, radiation curing, waterborne high-performance coatings, smart coatings, polyurethanes, antifouling coatings, anticorrosive coatings, catalysis for modern coatings, and powder coatings.
Call for Papers: 2014 Powder Coating Show & Expo
The Powder Coating Institute will host its 2014 Powder Coating Show in Indianapolis, Ind. Sept. 16-18, and is seeking abstracts on a variety of powder coating topics, from intermediate to advanced application, surface preparation, recovery, system troubleshooting, target markets, benefits of using powder coatings versus other alternatives, and more. The event attracts over 1,200 attendees and provides over 40 hours of presentations, with more than 100 exhibitors. Submissions are due March 15, 2014.
