The European Parliament passed a new and expanded privacy law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which went into effect on May 25, 2018. GDPR imposes new rules on any entity that offers goods and services to people in the European Union or that collects, processes or stores data of EU citizens, regardless of whether your company is based in the EU. Such data may include (but is not limited to) web cookies, IP addresses, contact information, health and genetic data, device IDs, and other personally identifiable data. Failure to comply with the GDPR could result in substantial fines by EU regulators and/or private causes of action brought by individual parties whose data you collect. ACA has collaborated for many years with Decision Metrics, a consulting firm with extensive expertise in the coatings industry and in forecasting, to develop a predictive model that attempts to size the architectural coatings market based on various known drivers of demand. The current report through 2018 Q1 is based on such things as existing home sales data published by industry groups such as the National Association of Realtors; current government statistics, such as construction figures; and historical data, including the discontinued Census Bureau MA325F report on paints and coatings shipments. The model is refreshed quarterly.
