ASSOCIATION & INDUSTRY NEWS

Obituary: Charles Alan (Al) Mordy

Charles Alan (Al) Mordy, President and CEO of Cloverdale Paint Company, longtime ACA member of the Board of Directors, and a friend of many in paint industry, passed away on June 4. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy, and his two children, Douglas (Candice) and Ann (Isha).

Al Mordy was an exceptional man who had a way of touching everyone with whom he came in contact. He will be greatly missed.

He was born in North Vancouver, but spent his childhood in Portland and San Francisco before moving back to Vancouver as a young man. He became a Chartered Accountant after articling with KPMG, and in 1976 he joined Cloverdale Paint as controller, working his way up to President and CEO. In addition to ACA, Al was active in several industry-related associations, in both Canada and in the United States, where the company had extended its presence in recent years.

After a very successful 40-year career, Al had recently been busy building a management team at both Cloverdale Paint and Rodda Paint companies that would enable him to ease out of the day to day operations. Cloverdale has credited his foresight with helping to provide for the group of companies to continue to prosper now and into the future.
