California's Department of Pesticide Registration will not approve new applications for registration of copper-based antifouling paints or coatings for use in California on recreational vessels where the adjusted daily mean copper release rate exceeds 9.5 micrograms per square centimeter per day.

Colorado has been reviewing both the California and Ozone Transport Commission (OTC) AIM and Consumer Product regulations as a model for its rule. ACA has urged Colorado to adopt the OTC Phase I AIM VOC rule given that Colorado has similar cold weather challenges as the northeast states.

ACA has collaborated for many years with Decision Metrics, a consulting firm with extensive expertise in the coatings industry and in forecasting, to develop a predictive model that attempts to size the architectural coatings market based on various known drivers of demand. The current report through 2018 Q2 is based on such things as existing home sales data published by industry groups such as the National Association of Realtors; current government statistics, such as construction figures; and historical data, including the discontinued Census Bureau MA325F report on paints and coatings shipments. The model is refreshed quarterly.

Sacha Kathuria has joined ACA as counsel in the association's Government Affairs division. In her new role she will focus on Sustainability issues and PaintCare advocacy. Prior to joining ACA, Kathuria worked on U.S. Department of Energy-funded electricity projects for the Midwestern Governors Association. She holds an LLM in Energy and Environmental Law from The George Washington University Law School, a Juris Doctor from Duquesne University, a Master in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, a Graduate Certificate from the European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and History from The George Washington University.
