Oregon State Legislature Passes Chemicals Management Program

After many years of the legislation being introduced and debated, Oregon finally succeeded in passing its own chemicals management program that is modeled on Washington state’s Children’s Safe Products Act and adopts Washington’s list of 66 chemicals, including formaldehyde and benzene.

Retail Sales Continue to Show Strength in the Building Materials Category

The U.S. Census Bureau publishes a widely followed retails sales figure that is one of the key economic indicators for the health of the economy. The same statitiscal series also shows some key retail channels, including those that sell the bulk of architectural coatings. The most recent figures show that measured sales in the paint store channel, the building materials channel, and the hardware cahannel are generally strong. Sales in the paint store channel, for exemple, were showed solid growth, with the trendline rising over 30% during the period starting in January 2010. Meanwhile, sales in the hardware channel and the building material and supply channel tracked each other almost precisely, as shown below (Note: that these two series are displayed on different axes).

Call for Papers: American Coatings Conference 2016

The American Coatings Association, in partnership with Vincentz Network (VN), is issuing a call for papers to be presented at the American Coatings Conference 2016. This major technology forum for the coatings industry will take place April 11-13, 2016 in Indianapolis, Ind., and is held in conjunction with the American Coatings Show. Innovative companies, as well as academic, governmental, and research institutes, are invited to submit abstracts detailing high-level technical contributions that highlight advancements important to coatings, as well as printing inks, adhesives, and sealants.
