ACA came out in support of both S. 697 and H.R. 2576 this year. ACA supports having a stronger, federal chemicals management program that will not only improve the public's confidence on the safety of chemicals, but that also provides businesses with much-needed certainty and consistency in the marketplace.

Chemical industry imports and exports appear to be highly influenced by currency valuations.
The dollar has noticeably strengthened in the past year, and as a result, net exports of chemicals are down noticeably. For example, while the United States exported approximately $200 billion in the chemical category in 2014, and importing $214 billion for consumption during the same period, this year (through September), U.S. exports totaled $148 billion, while imports for consumption were $164 billion.
As shown below, exports appear to be most highly influenced by the strength of the U.S. dollar. The
export activity is closely (and inversely) tied to fluctuations in the U.S. dollar's strength, while imports
appear to be slightly less sensitive to the currency fluctuation. Based on recent trends, at least in the large chemical space, net exports are unlikely to recover while the dollar remains at its recent high valuations against the currencies of our major trading partners.
