Washington State Safer Products Update on Paints
A recent Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) Priority Consumer Products report to the Washington Legislature included Paints on the list under the “Safer Products for Washington” program. Washington DOE included food and beverage cans (bisphenols) and cited concerns over inadvertent Polychlorinated biphenyls (iPCBs) as the reasoning.

ACA Member Webinar: Washington State Safer Products Program
This one-hour webinar on Sept. 10 at 1:00 pm (EDT) will provide an overview of the Washington State Safer Products Program — the regulatory program to reduce toxic chemicals in consumer products administered by the state Department of Ecology. In May 2020, citing concerns over inadvertent Polychlorinated biphenyls (iPCBs), DOE added Paints, and over concerns with bisphenols, added Food Can coatings to the list of the program’s priority consumer products DOE is expected to work over the next two years to identify alternatives for certain pigments that contain iPCBs and non-bisphenol coatings.
