Injured man spends night on beach in St. Vincent's due to lack of cell service

People in St. Mary’s Bay want answers about poor cell phone service after a man fell from a cliff Saturday night and lay on a beach in St. Vincent’s until around noon the following day when he was discovered by a young boy.
The injured man, who’s in his forties, wasn’t able to contact anyone because of a lack of cell service. The boy who found him had to run to a house and call for an ambulance.

According to a Sept. 29 news release, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services’ new palliative care program “provides paramedics with access to new medications to support end of life care and transportation for patients to the hospital if an emergency arises.”

When seconds count, county residents wait longer for paramedics to arrive

County residents dialing 911 for medical emergencies are having to wait longer than Guelph residents for paramedics to arrive.
In a report to the county’s social services committee, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services Chief Stephen Dewar said paramedic response times for the county “are longer than the response times for the entire coverage area.”

County Council moving ahead with plans for new paramedic base

Huron County council has approved a plan to create a paramedic base adjacent to the Brussels Fire Hall.
Huron County’s Chief of Emergency Services, Jeff Horsemen, says the proposal is now being looked at.
“So the proposal right now is that, in cooperation with Huron East, we look at getting a site plan developed, which would include two paramedic vehicle bays in a garage area and the associated living quarters.”

Sudbury officers, paramedic honoured for heroic actions

Greater Sudbury Police have honoured two officers and a paramedic for helping save a suicidal person earlier this year.
The service took time to honour Const. Jon Barry, Acting Sgt. Daniel Duguay and City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Chris Gilbert.
Each received the 2021 Heroic Action Award. The police service said that normally, such awards would be handed out during the annual Community and Police Awards Gala.

Manitoba man upset with ambulance service, emergency department after mom suffers stroke

A Manitoba man is frustrated with the province’s ambulance service and the emergency department his mother was taken to for care after his family was denied visitation.
Tyler McNish said his mother suffered a stroke shortly after 7:30 p.m. recently. She was then taken by ambulance from the family’s farm 20 minutes from Shoal Lake to Brandon — once there it was determined she needed to be sent into Winnipeg.

Driving ban issued for hitting ambulance in stolen pickup

A woman who collided with an ambulance while driving a stolen pickup truck has been prohibited from driving for two years.
Jocelyn Rae Wood of Chetwynd, 35, was also sentenced to a conditional sentence order - effectively house arrest - of two years less a day for the Oct. 28, 2020 incident on Highway 97 just north of the Simon Fraser Bridge.

Code critical: Patients waiting hours to be transferred from ambulances to emergency departments

Last month nine out of 10 patients ambulanced to the QEII Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department waited more than six hours to be admitted. Six hours and 42 minutes, in fact.
That disturbing information is contained in the Ambulance Offload Times report for last month prepared for Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and submitted to the Health minister. It confirms what many already knew: the situation on the front lines is getting worse.
