Ground breaks on new Montreal Tower

Ground has been broken on Montreal's first new privately owned commercial office tower to be built in more than 20 years. Located on Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal, the 26-storey Deloitte Tower is set to rise to 436 feet upon completion and will stand between two Montreal landmarks, the Bell Centre and the heritage–designated Windsor Station. "The tower forms are sculpted with large facets and angled tops to produce a distinctive and recognizable urban presence, and to create a contemporary backdrop to the Windsor Station courtyard."

Calgary 'The Bow' in world top 15 spectacular buildings

The tallest office tower in Calgary has been included in a list of the world's 15 most spectacular corporate buildings. Completed last year and renowned for its crescent shape and view of the Bow River, EnCana Corporation and Cenovus Energy headquarters building The Bow was included in the list — which includes (in no particular order) the 15 most spectacular buildings based on innovative design, visual impact and function of significant corporate architecture as determined by a jury of building experts from Emporis, an international provider of building data.

Students seek more fulfilling jobs in green fields

Most universities now offer four-year environmental science programs at the undergraduate level and there are a wide range of two- and three-year environmental technology diploma programs offered through colleges and technical institutes. And increasingly, graduates with generalist degrees in science, economics and engineering are enrolling in one- or two-year postgraduate programs being offered in energy supply and sustainability, conservation, engineering and green architecture.

LEED Silver for Kitchener's WalterFedy building

Though its parking lot is still ringed with the last of this winter's snow, everything is green inside WalterFedy's downtown Kitchener headquarters. That's because the integrated architecture, engineering, and construction management firm's new head office, formerly the Weber Supply building on Queen Street South, has received LEED Silver for Commercial Interiors certification from the Canada Green Building Council.
