Despite Superstorm Sandy, gas prices expected to drop
USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In spite of the havoc Hurricane Sandy wrought in the Northeast, lower gas prices still are in the forecast. Unlike Hurricane Isaac, which affected refineries in the Gulf of Mexico and led to an uptick in prices, Sandy likely will have a more muted effect on the market, experts say. In fact, gas prices are expected to continue dropping through the end of the year. More

RVC Outdoor Destinations sees luxury as missing link for campgrounds
Memphis Business Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
RVC Outdoor Destinations is in the business of bringing upscale to the great outdoors. Andy Cates, president, started the company in 2006 to redefine outdoor vacations and camping. The company has developed a brand it calls the "Hilton of outdoor hospitality" in a business of mostly mom-and-pop operations, ranging from RV parks to cabin communities. RVC locations have gourmet coffee, fitness centers, and many other amenities that people normally don't expect when "roughing it." More

Michigan state parks celebrate record for camp night reservations    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently celebrated an attendance milestone — its one-millionth camp night of the 2012 camping season. The last time it reached that milestone was 2005. Michigan state parks have reported a surge in campground visitors this year, with a 7 percent increase in advance reservations over the 2011 season. Officials credited, among other factors, lower gas prices earlier this summer that prompted visitors to take their RVs on the road more often. More

Northwest graduate filming documentary on tailgating at NFL games
The Grand Island Independent    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Thirty-two cities, the same number of tailgate parties, 25,000 miles in an RV — and it's all being captured on video. The adventure, known as Tailgate 32, is the quest of two brothers, John and Mike Trupiano, to document tailgating customs and traditions at home games for all 32 NFL teams. A team of five men are traveling in a 42-foot RV to chronicle the fans, the food and the fun; the end result will be a full-length documentary. The film crew already has eaten grilled bear meat at the Green Bay Packers-Chicago Bears game Sept. 13. More
