New York storm victims vote in RVs converted to polling sites
Los Angeles Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
New York voters still grappling with the effects of Hurricane Sandy nevertheless turned out in big numbers Tuesday. Many people arrived at makeshift polling sites like the recreational vehicle parked in Little Egg Harbor. One of them was Ruth Ann Murray, 75, who currently is staying in a shelter after her home was flooded. Murray has never missed an election. "I think it's wonderful that we can still vote," she said after being lowered from the RV on a wheelchair ramp, adding that she felt voting was her duty. "This is our country and we have to make sure it's being run as we want it to be." More

Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline took its biggest drop since 2008 in the past two weeks because of lower crude oil prices, a big price drop in pump prices in California, and Hurricane Sandy. Gasoline prices averaged $3.55 per gallon Nov. 2, down 20.75 cents from Oct. 19 when drivers were paying $3.75 at the pump, according to the Lundberg Survey. The decline was the biggest two-week price drop since the survey recorded a 21.9 cents price decline Dec. 5, 2008, because of a crash in petroleum demand during the global recession. More

The company has a program called CamperForce, in which employees camp out for free near the company's large fulfillment centers. CamperForce workers typically are RV enthusiasts who would like some seasonal work to get them through the rest of the year or to earn extra money for Christmas gifts. The 10- to 12-week gig is the perfect complement to their RVing lifestyle — the job ends by Dec. 23, so workers can be with their families for Christmas or hit the road for a new adventure. More
