Unsurprisingly, researchers have noted that less than 4% of radiology reports are written at an eighth-grade level, with the average report requiring college-level reading skills.

Laughter may not be the best medicine on paper, but a Swiss study suggests a little humor can go a long way for the radiologist-patient relationship. Research, led by Dr. Elisabeth Sartoretti from the University of Zürich, found that using humor during routine breast cancer screenings can improve relationships, because the radiologist is considered more empathetic and competent.

Breast cancer recurrence rates low with nipple-sparing mastectomy

For patients undergoing nipple-sparing mastectomy, overall breast cancer recurrence rates are low at a median follow-up of 10 years, according to a study published in the October issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Carter J. Boyd, M.D., from New York University Langone Health in New York City, and colleagues retrospectively reviewed all patients undergoing nipple-sparing mastectomy at a single institution to obtain a median of 10 years of follow-up.
