What does 'resilience' mean to radiography students?
Aunt Minnie
Are diagnostic radiography students prepared for the stress that lies ahead? To explore the question, a group in South Africa recently interviewed students about their concept of resilience. Radiology faculty at Cape Peninsula University of Technology held focus groups to ask first-year students what the concept of resilience means to them, and while definitions varied, most said the concept relates to overcoming adversity and rising above challenges.

Is contrast-enhanced mammography suitable for women with breast implants?
Health Imaging
With contrast-enhanced mammography gaining traction among breast imaging modalities for women with increased risks of developing cancer, experts in the field caution that its use needs to be further validated in various subgroups. Among these subgroups are women with breast implants.

Possible biological explanation for increased cancer risk in dense breasts
ScienceDaily
The risk of developing breast cancer is higher in what are known as dense breasts, which appear white in mammograms, than in nondense breasts, which appear grey. Researchers have now shown that there are major biological differences dense breasts and nondense breasts. The results suggest that the properties of dense breasts promote cancer growth.

Consider alternatives for MRI-guided breast biopsy grid plates due to shortage
U.S. Food & Drug Administration
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is recommending health care providers discuss alternative options for MRI-guided breast biopsy procedures with patients if a facility is unable to perform the biopsy due to a shortage of Philips Invivo MRI breast biopsy grid plates and other Philips Invivo MRI disposables.

Can AI-powered virtual biopsies improve detection of breast lesion subtypes on digital mammography?
Diagnostic Imaging
Emerging binational research suggests that artificial intelligence may aid in detecting breast lesion subtypes on mammography images and potentially reduce unnecessary biopsies. In a recent retrospective study published in Radiology, researchers assessed AI-enabled algorithms in two different cohorts of women who had one year of clinical and imaging history prior to biopsy diagnosis.

How to combat eye strain, visual fatigue in radiology
Aunt Minnie
Eye strain can be a frequent issue for radiologists, a problem exacerbated by higher exam volumes, the increasing complexity of imaging studies and the pressure to maintain turnaround times. One of the first to draw attention to this issue was Dr. Talia Vertinsky of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
