Chicago claimed the number-one ranking in Cvent's Top 50 Meeting Destinations this year, beating out former winners Orlando and Las Vegas. The meetings technology supplier evaluated data from more than 5,000 U.S. cities represented on the Cvent Supplier Network. "One of the stand-out trends this year is out of the destinations' control: location," noted Cvent Supplier Network vice president of sales Bhalet Malhotra.

Moment.me launches email marketing tool for event planners
Israeli startup Moment.me has created a new email marketing tool for meeting planners, it announced last week. Integrated into the company's core offering — a free mobile platform for building event-specific microsites — the tool allows planners to create professional event-marketing emails without knowledge of HTML by importing contacts from their email account, then using an automated tool to design multimedia messages.
San Antonio, Anaheim, Baltimore team up to lure more convention business

Strength of City Pair Program saves billions for federal agencies
U.S. General Services Administration
On Aug. 7, the U.S. General Services Administration announced the award of its successful cost-saving air travel contracts for 2015, which will save taxpayers approximately $2.3 billion. Under GSA's City Pair Program, airfare rates for the federal government's official travel are prenegotiated and firm-fixed-price for a year offering a 23-percent discount below corporate benchmark fares. In addition to offering considerable discounts, the City Pair Program allows the federal government additional flexibility in how it books air travel, such as no cancellation or change fees.
