CIO    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
IT is in a time of disruptive transition, caused by the rise of cloud computing. CIOs are in the midst of a maelstrom, and — like Ulysses, the fabled hero from Homer's Odyssey — are torn between the Scylla of established IT practices and the Charybdis of the future, both of which loom dangerously and portend trouble. CIO Update    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

InformationWeek    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
You can debate a new technology model only for so long. This year, more enterprises are moving beyond the theoretical and into the practical stage of using cloud technologies and services. As virtualization did in certain ways, cloud helps IT change from being the "no" people to the "yes" people. As you stop talking cloud and start walking, two key questions are: How fast will you move, and which vendors will be key to your plans? More

Baseline    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
From corporate cost containment, regulatory compliance, strategic "voice of the customer" initiatives and beyond, the need for businesses to manage proliferating data has never been more urgent. Enter data governance. The term "governance" has bounced from the political world to corporate boardrooms, landing squarely in the laps of IT executives, who have been busy formalizing their IT governance initiatives. Despite the term entering the lexicon, there is still some confusion about what data governance actually means, what work is involved with it and who should own it. More

CIO    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
IT outsourcing deals are getting smaller, particularly in the U.S., as companies are loath to invest the big bucks required for large contracts, according to research by outsourcing consultancy TPI. But that's not the only reason. More

Pay now bigger lure than job satisfaction for IT talent
Computerworld    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
If you are on a recruitment drive, the biggest lure is increasingly a generous pay package, rather than what the company can offer in terms of job satisfaction. A recent Chartered Institute of Personal Development survey of 2,000 employees across all departments found over half cited pay as the top reason for wanting to change jobs, and this resonates well with the experiences of some IT department heads at the moment. PC World    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Traditional IT outsourcing customers are struggling with cloud computing, according to IT service providers and outsourcing advisers surveyed by KPMG Sourcing Advisory.
