Keynote Announcement: How Changing Your Mind Might Change the World with Philip Yenawine
SIM
SIM National Executive Retreat | Nov. 15-17 | Ritz Carlton Amelia Island, FL
How one leader’s willingness to rethink everything transformed a field and is now impacting museums, education, business, healthcare, and beyond. Philip Yenawine, creator of Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and former Director of Education at the Museum of Modern Art, and Dabney Hailey, a curator who brought the method to the business world with VTS@Work, will tell the story of this paradigm-shifting approach to group discussions. You’ll experience VTS and reflect on how it transforms the way we observe, listen, lead, collaborate, and think. They’ll share examples of VTS application in a range of current contexts, from preschool to K12 and from Harvard Medical School to Fortune 500s.
Following the keynote, join deep-dive workshops led by Dabney Hailey and Nick Gardner, Executive Director at VTS at Watershed.

IT Investments, IT Spending, and IT Management Issues: A Post Pandemic Recovery
SIM 2021 IT Trends Study
According to the data from the 2021 SIM IT Trends Study, Cloud Computing, Security, and Analytics/Business Intelligence and related technologies (such as Data Mining, Big Data, and Forecasting) continue to be the three largest IT investments of organizations. Overall, these rankings stayed relatively consistent except for Collaboration Tools which increased in 2020 from 16th to 8th position but dropped to 10th in 2021. The increased demand for collaborative technologies in 2021 was due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 and, specifically to the fact that most organizations were forced to move to working remotely. In this context, the drop of Collaboration Tools in 2021 can be explained as a signal of an anticipated return to normalcy.
