It's really easy to get caught up in the mobile craze right now and fixate on smartphones and other devices apart from the PC. With the cloud starting to kill off server space in offices, some might be forgiven for starting to think that the PC is next on the chopping block.

Made-in-Canada streaming services CraveTV, Shomi added to Apple TV

For the first time, Apple Inc. is adding made-in-Canada streaming video apps to its Apple TV service. BCE Inc.'s CraveTV and the Shomi network (a partnership of Rogers Communications Inc. and Shaw Communications Inc.) were added to the set-top box's list of available services. They won't be available in any other country, though, as both require a subscription to traditional paid TV services, (CraveTV) or Internet (Shomi) inside Canada.

When Marissa Mayer became Yahoo's CEO in 2012, she was greeted with a viral internet campaign from one of the company's most loved — and neglected — properties. "Dear Marissa Mayer," began the website created by entrepreneur Sean Bonner. "Please make Flickr awesome again!" The path-breaking photo-sharing site, which doubled as a forerunner for modern social networks, had fallen into disrepair.

LinkedIn just beat Google in a property war

LinkedIn scored a huge real estate victory over Google recently, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal. After a city council meeting, LinkedIn received permission to build on 1.4 million square feet of land in Mountain View, CA, which is "the lion's share of roughly 2.2 million square feet of available commercial square footage for the area," according to the article. Google, meanwhile, received just 515,000 square feet.
