Gmail addresses, website passwords leaked online

A list of almost five million Gmail addresses and passwords culled from various websites was posted on a Russian online forum. Mashable and other technology news websites reported that the leaked passwords are not necessarily those used to access Gmail accounts but seem to have been compiled from other websites, including some where Gmail addresses were used to register.

Facebook CEO ready to spend billions to spread web access

Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said he's willing to spend whatever it takes to spread Internet access around the world. "We feel a big responsibility to bring the Internet to more people," Zuckerberg said at an event organized by Carlos Slim, chair emeritus of America Movil SAB, in Mexico City. "Even if Facebook has to spend billions of dollars" to make it happen, he said. Facebook already connects almost half of the world's Internet-connected population on its social network, with 1.3 billion users.

Internet of Things to see security services soar

A Facebook update aims to make ads more effective

Seeking to make Facebook Inc. advertising more interesting to consumers, the social network says it has rolled out two updates to the news feed to help show more relevant ads, while also testing a feature that would let brands set a time for their status updates — including exclusive offers — to disappear. "When someone sees an ad that is relevant to them, it's a good experience for them as well as the marketer trying to reach them," writes Max Eulenstein, Facebook's product manager, in a blog post
