Hot Off the Press — SIP DESIGN Best Practice 8: SIP Roof and Wall Assemblies
SIPA
The newest of the approved installments in SIPA's Best Practices series – Download for FREE
Wall and roof connection joints are the weakest link of any building. It is no different when building with SIPs.
It is important to understand in which climate zone the project you are designing is to be built, to control air and moisture migration at panel joints for long-term durability. Depending on the geography, the appropriate use and position of vapor retarder products like sealants, tapes and liquid applied barriers will change.
Five of the ten proposed Best Practices documents are now available for free download from the SIPA Store on www.sips.org. The other four published installments include; SIP DESIGN BP-1: High-Performance SIP Building Envelope; SIP DESIGN BP-2: HVAC Systems with SIPs; SIP DESIGN BP-3: SIP Structural Capabilities and SIP DESIGN BP-4: SIP Sizes. These resources are free to download and provide a deep-dive into the topics covered in SIPA's Designing with SIPs: DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS brochure which is also available from the SIPA Store as a free download.

Frequently Asked Question: Are SIPs Susceptible to Mold and Mildew?
SIPA
The extremely low levels of air infiltration in SIP buildings inhibit mold and mildew growth
A water and airtight SIP building envelope forms the basis of a successful mold control strategy. The extremely low levels of air infiltration in SIP buildings allow for incoming air to be provided in controlled amounts by air handling equipment. Proper dehumidification of incoming air following ASHRAE standards will create an environment where mold physically cannot grow.
In addition to creating a near airtight structure, SIPs are solid and free of any cavities in the walls where moisture can condense and cause unseen mold growth.

7 Facts on Self-Climbing Concrete Forming Systems
For Construction Pros
In vertical formwork, what a lot of people picture is the form of a wall or a column. But on a high-rise, you need to build one floor, then the next. All the equipment you have to build one floor has to be physically moved up to the next which is often done by a crane. And it’s a lot of material to move.
