Irish Institutions to Benefit from 'Read and Publish' Agreement

Through the 'read and publish' agreement, which lasts until the end of 2024, authors affiliated with eight member institutions of the consortium can publish open access papers in IOPP's hybrid journals, with no article publication charges for qualifying articles at the point of publication.

The University of California’s recent negotiations with Elsevier achieved a better deal for researchers than was initially given to them when they walked away in 2018.
After a two-year standoff, during which academics at the multi-campus system had no direct access to paywalled Elsevier content, the publisher largely bowed to California’s demand to cut overall costs while allowing California authors to publish open access.

APS to Launch New Open-Access Energy Sciences Journal

As part of its strategy to provide expanded open-access offerings in the Physical Review journal portfolio, APS is launching PRX Energy, a new selective journal featuring papers on energy sources, storage, and utilization research. Submissions will be accepted starting in late summer 2021 with the first papers published in the fall.

Copyright Filings Down from 2018 Surge, New Report Finds

Copyright filings declined significantly over the last two years, according to a new report by Lex Machina, which found that overall cases had dipped from a 2018 peak that was driven primarily by surges in file-sharing litigation.
According to the report, there were 5,031 and 3,485 new copyright cases filed in 2019 and 2020, respectively, down from a high of 6,536 three years ago.
