SLA Members Elect Rampersad as 2023 President
SLA
SLA members have elected Seema Rampersad, a senior business researcher and service manager at the British Library, to serve as president of SLA in 2023. Rampersad will serve as president-elect in 2022 and immediate past president in 2024. Catherine Lavallée-Welch, the university librarian at Bishop’s University in Canada, is currently the president-elect and will serve as president in 2022.

The Institute of Navigation has announced that its quarterly journal, NAVIGATION, Journal of the Institute of Navigation, will move to an Open Access model of publishing beginning Jan. 1, 2022. NAVIGATION is the leading peer-reviewed and indexed scientific journal publishing articles on all areas related to the art and science of Positioning, Navigation and Timing.

Illinois State University Strikes Deal for Open Access Publishing

Milner Library has struck a deal with the academic publisher IGI Global for a new collection of electronic materials to be made available to Illinois State University students and faculty in the coming year. According to the Evidence-Based Acquisitions agreement, IGI will make its entire eBook collection available to the Illinois State community for the next 12 months. These titles will be available as full text documents that can be used by multiple users simultaneously, making them an excellent resource for teaching or individual research.

How Latin American Researchers Suffer in Science

As female researchers from Latin American countries (one of us now works in the U.S., the other in Argentina), we’re used to career obstacles. These range from limited funding to language barriers and the ‘tax’, in terms of time and emotional energy, incurred when under-represented groups in science participate in diversity initiatives. These barriers knit together to create problems beyond the obvious.

We are delighted to announce that Zoonoses is now an affiliated journal of the American Society for Virology.
Zoonoses, an open access journal, has been established to be part of the broader goal of sharing scientific findings and viewpoints, promoting national/international collaborations, and to increase public awareness of the health risks of zoonoses.
