On Saturday, May 30, 2015, Wayne K. Sawyer, President and CEO of Bennett’s Creek Nursery passed away suddenly, but peacefully. He was 59 years old. An obituary is pending and will be posted on the SNA website when available. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5 followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 6.

The 60th Annual SNA Research Conference, hosted by the Southern Nursery Association, will be held July 21- 22, 2015, in conjunction with SNA 2015, at the Georgia International Convention Center, Atlanta. This two-day event will feature the best in horticultural research. All industry researchers that have submitted titles must paper(s) to the appropriate Section Editor by June 15. We have joined with many other Agriculture organizations in voicing opposition to this definition that could result in many marginal waterways being subject to federal regulation. Despite hundreds of thousands of comments from concerned stakeholders, EPA appears to have forged ahead with language that is far overreaching and ignores the pleas of not only the citizens but of Congress as well.

Nurseries across the nation, large and small, are taking a proactive, precautionary stance on neonicotinoid use.

The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), in collaboration with AmericanHort, established the Horticultural Industry Bee & Pollinator Stewardship Initiative in 2014. One of the primary goals of the Initiative is to identify and fund research that will help answer key science questions and fill gaps needed to inform, design, and refine an industry stewardship program. The Initiative's focus on research is a key component in establishing a clearer understanding of horticulture's impact on pollinators, according to a press release from HRI.
