SNA Past President Larry D. Edwards Passes Away
We are saddened with the news that SNA Past President Larry Edwards passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014 due to complications of a stroke he suffered two weeks ago. Larry and his family founded and have operated Turtle Creek Nursery outside of Davidson for over 40 years. Many organizations have benefited from his leadership including Southern Nursery Association (Pres. 1993), North Carolina Nursery and Landscape Assoc. (Pres. 1986) and Trustee of The Holden Beach Chapel. During the six years Larry served on the SNA board he always had the best interest of SNA at heart. We are thankful for his service, his dedication, leadership, insight, and the many words of wisdom he (and Jane) so freely gave to the SNA. He touched the lives of many with his warm and caring personality and will be missed by all that knew him.

Lawn & Landscape
In certain parts of the country, rain gardens are growing in popularity and that trend is becoming a factor in the health of local environments. And it's a trend in which you can take part. Nowhere is this more evident than in the east coast's Chesapeake Bay watershed. The Chesapeake Bay watershed spans more than 64,000 square miles. It encompasses all of the District of Columbia and parts of six states: Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Lawn Care Companies Should Expect Unexpected Questions
By Fred Berns
They're the questions from hell — the ones lawn and landscape professionals hate to hear, but often do. These questions may deal with price, safety or a variety of other topics. Failing to come up with right answers may cost you more than time and stress. It may cost you money. You may end up cutting your prices or giving away your time to avoid a confrontation with a difficult customer. Or you may foster doubt and fear, and lose business by dodging queries about chemicals.
Managing Temperature During Propagation
Greenhouse Product News
December through March is peak propagation season for most greenhouse growers in North America. During this time, many growers receive non-rooted and sometimes callused cuttings, sow seeds or both. Successful propagation requires careful water management (and for cuttings, high humidity), moderate light levels and temperatures that promote rapid rooting. Temperature primarily drives the rate of root and shoot development while light provides the energy to promote that growth. When one of these environmental factors is not optimized, rooting is delayed.
