SPPA
The SPPA Promo Tour is headed across our region again in 2016 with a stop in Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday, March 29. Join SPPA and five suppliers for lunch and quick presentations. We've asked each supplier to condense their presentation and get to the good stuff first! It's kind of like speed dating, but without the awkward moments and you don't have to move around. You'll leave with information on new products, find out what products are selling the best right now, and get sales tips from some of our industry's top professionals. Each supplier will also have a table set up with plenty of samples and catalogs; they'll be available after the luncheon for one-on-one time.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Wade Hulett who passed away on February 18 at the age of 74. He was well respected in the promotional products and sporting goods industries for his honesty, integrity, and product knowledge. Along with his son, Craig, he operated DHS Sales and was a familiar face at our shows for many years.
Birmingham-based distributor, ImageWorks, has merged with City Paper Company. Rick Roth, President of ImageWorks, says he chose to join City Paper Company in an effort to offer additional print, promotional products and marketing services to the businesses in the ImageWorks network. ImageWorks has been operating in the promotional products industry since 1992. The merger will include ImageWorks Director of Accounts, Judy Edwards.
Bill and Melanie Perry with MBF Perry Company in Birmingham have announced they are now an affiliate of Geiger. The contact information for the Perry’s remains the same.

Like many business owners, you've probably spent a lot of time creating your social media marketing strategy, then spent just as much time implementing it.
If you have the resources, you may have even hired a social media specialist to run your various profiles. But is your strategy really working? There are some business owners out there who would talk about how many followers they get or how many likes they have, but those numbers don't necessarily equate to an increase in sales.

Sometimes a colorful buzzword or phrase becomes so popular "nobody goes there anymore" as baseball legend Yogi Berra once said about a restaurant. Or at least you should resist going with the stampede. Case in point: "Boots on the ground." C'mon, that military term is just so macho-sounding, it's hard to resist. Sounds so much sexier than "deploy ground troops." Yet think about it a second — where else would boots be but on the ground? In the air?

Retailers, welcome to 2016. Mobile is all around us and digital technologies are changing faster than most brands can keep up with. According to author Surya Yalamanchili: I hereby nominate Donald Trump for 2016 Ad Age Marketer of the Year. While a nexus of factors — including marketing malpractice by the GOP — has propelled Trump to the top of the Republican polls, it's his marketing instincts that have allowed him to defy expectations. When I analyzed the Trump phenomenon for my book, I was surprised that a number of his keys to success were straight out of the playbook I learned as a brand manager at P&G.
