.FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
Hello to you all!
While we have a quick moment between the end of Healthcare Simulation Week and IMSH things, I wanted to share with you a few bits of information I thought really showed how strong the #hcsimweek campaign has become upon completion of its fifth year.
First, the participation map was A-W-E-S-O-M-E in 2021!
To be honest, SSH Staff and volunteer leaders weren't sure what to expect in terms of engagement this year with, you know, the pandemic still affecting work schedules, demands, and more.
Still, a record 541 pins were placed on the map! That number far surpassed the previous high from 2019 of 437 and included six continents and dozens of countries. Also, many of you shared with all of us how you planned to celebrate Healthcare Simulation Week. I'm a huge believer in data visualization, and seeing the map light up weeks before the actual event was incredibly energizing. Thank you for that!
This year's campaign also saw the return of the SSH Healthcare Simulation Week video contest. There were several great entries, and an impressive 542 voters determined the winners of two categories. That kind of participation is flat super!
On that note, congratulations to our two winners:
A final highlight, we know that, through the #hcsimweek21 hashtag, the campaign had a potential minimum reach of 1.2 million social media feeds. I say minimum because the reporting tool we used to track analytics cannot track LinkedIn at the present time. (And, I know we had a LOT of folks spreading the word on that platform also!)
Still, for a grassroots campaign that relies solely on organic reach and growth, to see it travel the world the way it did and does each year is remarkable.
You should take great pride in knowing you had a hand in that in some way. I look forward to seeing it grow even more in the future.
Now, on to IMSH! Get registered before Friday, Oct. 15, 5 p.m. Eastern Time (U.S.) and save $200 with early bird pricing! And, be sure to regularly check imsh2022.org as more information becomes available closer to January 15-19!
Until next time,
Curtis Kitchen, CAE

Are there advantages to simulating clinical cases in teaching?
BOB fm
Simulations are important for clinical education in general. In obstetrics and gynecology, technical skills are just as important as trust, respect and cooperation between clinicians and patients or pregnant women, with simulation being a valuable educational tool that improves acquisition of knowledge, practical skills and correct clinical attitudes.

Gaming, simulation teach how to manage difficult airways
VAntage Point
Difficult airway management is just that … difficult. However, a gaming and simulation program is making training for the condition easier. When life-threatening airway situations occur, medical professionals only have minutes to perform potentially life-saving procedures. This is a fact even more health care professionals and trainees have come to understand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
