.FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP
Can you believe that summer is gone and we are moving into fall? We continue to be super busy here in the SSH Membership Department. I am very pleased to announce that SSH is over 5300 members strong! We continue to grow as more and more simulationists around the world find benefit in joining SSH.
The SSH Membership Department is busy with many projects, serving the members. We are in the process of building a database for the Serious Games Section. This database will allow people who are developing a project to match up with people who will help test the project. We are also tweaking the Formal Healthcare Training Directory, with a workgroup from the Formal Training Affinity Group. The Internal Relations Committee, with Chair and Vice Chair Russell Metcalf-Smith and Krista Anderson, are finalizing a survey that will go out to our global simulation community.
The External Relations Committee, with Chair and Vice Chair Jamie Robertson and John Dean, are getting ready for another round of meetings with SSH Affiliate Representatives later this month. STORM Magazine work is well underway, with its new Editor in Chief, Dave Biffar. We have scheduled the face to face meetings for all of the interest groups at IMSH and are looking forward to seeing everyone! The IMSH scheduler will be opening this month, so be sure to go in and start picking your schedule for IMSH, as well as those all important Interest Group meetings.
We have been asked by many people to have something every year that commemorates each IMSH. Matthew Charnetski, Chair of the Internal Relations Committee Technology Subcommittee, came up with the idea of the Challenge Coins. They are a mere $10! We will produce these every year for both onsite and virtual IMSH attendees. They will highlight the location of IMSH each year and can be ordered through registration. The Membership Department builds and manages the registration system each year for IMSH. If you have any questions about the coins, Becca Fletcher, SSH Customer Service Coordinator, will be able to assist you. Here is a draft rendering of what they will look like. The corner picture shows what the edges will look like.
Finally, we want to thank all of the people who have referred members to us in the past three months:
Rami Ahmed, Kristen Brown, Cass Bucey, James Byrnes, Melanie Cason, Kimberly Conway-Pennick, Joshua Crosby, Anahat Dhillon, Brenda Guzic, Fran Hildwine, Lars Konge, Lori Lioce, Kathie Mahoney, Heather Martin, Sarah Minson, Kate Morse, Shannon Pranger, John Rask, Virginia Riggall, Suzette Robinson, Jamie Shoemaker, Jayne Smitten, Nancy Sullivan, Dawn Swiderski, Cyrus Vileta, Holly Watts

3D printing, virtual reality help separate twins conjoined at the head
Thomas Net
3D printing and virtual reality assisted a team of doctors to successfully separate twins attached at the head. The Jerusalem Post reported the 12-hour operation on the one-year-old twins born with craniopagus took place at Soroka-University Medical Center in Beersheba, Israel.
The achievement has been completed only about 20 times, according to the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Soroka Dr. Mickey Gideon, and this is the first time it has happened in Israel.
Surgical 3D printing company 3D4OP took images from MRI, CT, and angiography scans and produced models which showed the connection of the blood vessels, meninges, skull bones and skin of the babies.

The initial cost of setting up a healthcare simulation center with equipment, inventory, audiovisual infrastructure, and management software can be substantial. These endeavors are often funded through grants, gifts or other one-time capital events. As a result, ongoing simulation center expenses must be justified. Selecting SimCapture for your simulation education management provides significant return on investment in critical areas of operation allowing for nearly immediate justification. SimCapture not only offers automation and efficiency tools but will help provide curriculum management and increased collaboration throughout your center. Learn more about what SimCapture can offer your center.

Simulated medical experience teaches nursing students how to deal with a difficult patient
WTRF-TV
It played out at OU Eastern, in the nursing simulation lab.
And it happened as the president of the entire university visited and watched.
The "patient" was an electronic mannequin.
He was supposedly an older man with a severe asthma attack.
He answered questions, blinked his eyes, even coughed.
He claimed he'd had no contact with COVID, but the nurses learned he had.
It was extremely realistic, and surprisingly tense, as though it was the real thing.

These holograms are so real you can touch them
Freethink
Hologram technology is amazing already, but imagine being able to reach out and touch the virtual object — something many of us wished for during the endless lockdowns and late-night Zoom sessions with loved ones. This hologram technology could overtake heavy haptic suits for immersive video gaming. People could also use it in virtual meetings or medical applications, where doctors can work with a simulation before directly treating the patient.
