.THE PULSE — Your weekly update from SSH Staff
Greetings from the Certification Team!
I am excited to share with you all that as of last month, we now have over 3,000 certified Healthcare Simulation Educators! This is a huge achievement as we gear up to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the CHSE program. Along with the CHSE-A, CHSOS, and CHSOS-A programs, we now have over 3,800 individuals certified from over 40 countries!
The CHSE program has grown in more ways than just certificant numbers since it was launched in 2012. In an effort to maintain the highest level of excellence in certification design and delivery, the CHSE program has undergone two practice analyses, nine versions of the examination, and yearly test question writing and item-level statistical performance review workshops.
These activities will continue in an effort to maintain the validity, reliability, and fairness of the certification program. One essential activity is the practice analysis which is starting in November of this year for both the CHSE and CHSOS programs. This extensive process occurs once every five years and consists of several meetings with input from subject matter experts (SMEs) from around the world.
The goal of the practice analysis is to document and define the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities of those in a healthcare simulation educator role and a healthcare simulation operations specialist role respectively.
Perhaps the most significant achievement for the CHSE program was achieving National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation in November of 2019. The NCCA was formed for the purpose of developing standards of excellence for voluntary certification programs. NCCA accredited programs certify individuals in a wide range of professions and occupations. To date, NCCA has accredited more than 315 programs from more than 130 organizations.
So, if you were on the fence about applying for or renewing either certification, now is the time to get it done! Achieving certification provides value to you as a healthcare simulation professional, to your simulation program, to your organization, to healthcare simulation and the healthcare industry, and to patients.
In closing, registration for IMSH 2023 in Orlando, Florida is now open. Click here for all registration questions! I will be in Orlando and looking forward to connecting with as many of you as possible.
Until next time, be excellent to each other.

Portable minimally invasive surgery simulators market report 2022
Business Wire
The portable minimally invasive surgery simulators market was valued at $148.6 million in 2021, and it is expected to propel at a 13.9% CAGR and reach $479.9 million by 2030. This has mainly to do with the rising awareness of the learning based on simulation, implementation of laparoscopic simulation systems, fast digitization of the healthcare industry, technological developments in portable MIS simulators, and rising demand for minimally invasive treatments, which are quick and less painful and have a shorter recovery period.

Program provides international medical professionals new opportunities
PennState
Arzu Dede was a nurse in her homeland Turkey for 15 years. That ended when she was forced to flee and seek refuge in the U.S. She said her patients were a big part of her life until she left Turkey and she is eager to return to nursing. Dede is one of many international medical professionals who have come to the U.S. and found an opportunity to continue to practice medicine in their new country through Penn State Harrisburg’s Second Degree Nursing Program.

Debriefing is a critical component of the learning process. As more institutions incorporate simulation to provide learners a safe and risk-free environment in which to practice their skills, debriefing has also gone virtual. Research has shown that asynchronous virtual debriefing sessions can be just as effective as in-person debriefing. To ensure your students get as much from a virtual debriefing experience as possible, read on for six considerations from Dr. Laura Gonzalez, Sentinel U Vice President of Clinical Learning Resources and current INACSL President.

Simulated trials for better real-world outcomes
Labratory News
Clinical trials are notoriously expensive, time-consuming and resource intensive. In addition, the obligation of participation from patients is considerable; one survey found almost half (49%) of trial participants reported that their daily routine was disrupted due to being involved in a clinical trial.
