Albany State breaks ground for $8M medical simulation center

With a little help from some friends, Albany State University celebrated the coming nursing and health sciences simulation center with University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue among those who showed up don a hard hat and toss some dirt.

Impact and determinants of COVID-19 pandemic on the cataract surgery rate at a tertiary referral center

Preventive measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, minimized workload on health-care systems and redirected resources to COVID-19 patients resulting in a reduction of elective procedures such as cataract surgery. We report the changes in monthly cataract surgery rate and its associated determinants at a tertiary eye hospital during different periods of the pandemic. Studying the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on cataract surgery rate will help health-care policymakers to better understand the barriers to overcome the expected surgical backlog.

UofL medical student receives national award for research on gender diversity in patient simulation

Fourth-year medical student Luca Petrey was recently awarded the 2022 RIME Underrepresented in Medicine Research Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. Petrey, in collaboration with Emily Noonan and Laura Weingartner, was recognized at the 2022 AAMC Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, for their paper titled “Gender Diverse Representation in Patient Simulation: A Scoping Review.”
