Learn to write effective user documentation with STC
STC
Share

Developing user documentation is not simply documenting everything on the interface, nor is it documenting every task the user can possibly do with the product. And whatever you develop must ship on time and fit in the budget for the project. How do you develop good user documentation that meets all these (seemingly) conflicting needs? How do you make your boss happy and meet the information needs of your users? How can you do it and not go crazy? Can this even be done? Join Sharon Burton for STC's multi-week certificate course Writing Effective User Documentation, where she provides specific ways to meet all these needs and not make you crazy in the process. Learn what "good" user documentation is and how to create it, how to plan meeting deadlines and deliverables, and how to meet the cost requirements of your company.

Tips for writing multiplatform mobile apps
Informationweek
Share

As smartphone and tablet use skyrockets, companies are developing mobile applications for customers and end users. If your company is considering creating its own mobile apps, you must understand the development landscape. The platform you target has a preferred language. If you want to write an app that will run on multiple platforms, you can either write it in each platform's preferred language or use a third-party tool to generate code for different platforms. This second approach can save time and effort, though it may affect usability.

Think first about the alternate approach: A design-first methodology leads to website templates that may or may not work with real information and real user needs. A content-first methodology addresses business and user goals first, creating clarity, consistency, professionalism, and efficiency.
