2013 STC Membership Opens 1 October; Information on discounts, incentives, policy changes, and new dues rates

To encourage timely renewals, The STC Board of Directors approved a discounted rate of $195 for members joining or renewing at the Classic Membership level on or before 31 December 2012. (With the addition of one chapter ($25) and one SIG ($10), the total cost of membership for individuals joining or renewing at the Classic Membership level on or before 31 December 2012 is $230.) STC has also announced new dues for 2013, decreased dues for individuals residing in emerging nations, increased the incentive amounts in the Member-Get-a-Member campaign, and eliminated the reinstatement fee for late-renewing members. Free Summit registration for communities

The STC Board of Directors announced that in 2013, STC will provide each chapter and SIG one free registration for the Technical Communication Summit in Atlanta. The decision is in response to feedback from community leaders and is intended to help ensure that all communities have an incoming leader representing them at next year's Leadership Program. It also will help many communities avoid a major annual expense so they can dedicate more of their funds to programs and services that benefit a broad cross-section of members.

With your input, this study will determine the knowledge and abilities currently required to perform the job of a Technical Writer. These results will ensure that the content of the new certification assessment is a fair, current, and appropriate measure of applicants for certification.

STC is holding a virtual conference on technical editing over three days in October, from 16-18 October. Sessions will run each day from Noon-2:15 PM EDT (GMT-4), with four sessions per day. Hosted by Angela Eaton of Texas Tech University, sessions will provide research, insights, tips, and techniques to improve your technical editing.
