Plastics market for health care packaging forecast to reach five billion lb by 2015

According to a new technical market research report, Plastics For Healthcare Packaging from BCC Research, the U.S. market for plastic health care packaging is expected to reach 3.8 billion lb of products in 2010, which is expected to increase to nearly 5 billion pounds in 2015, for a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6 percent. Ansell introduces new eco-friendly packaging for gloves

Ansell Healthcare Products LLC has improved its glove packaging with a newer, greener design that significantly reduces packaging waste and also helps conserve fuel consumption. Ansell's increased-count exam pack contains more exam gloves per box -- and per case. The newly designed dispensing box still fits into customers' existing wall brackets, yet provides 50-100 percent more gloves depending on the specific glove selected. This means boxes hold 150 to 200 gloves, as opposed to the prior design of 100 gloves. More

Closed Loop Recycling, a UK producer of food grade rPET and rHDPE, is working in partnership with the dairy industry to help it achieve the recycling milestones agreed in its Milk Roadmap. High street retailer Sainsbury's has confirmed it is the first of the big four supermarkets to use 10 percent rHDPE in its milk bottle packaging. All of its own-brand plastic milk bottles now contain 10 percent rHDPE, and the retailer is further committed to increasing that level to 30 percent by 2015. More

Data released by the Organic Trade Association (OTA) indicates that U.S. sales of organic products continued to grow during 2009 despite the distressed state of the economy. What's more, organic product sales in 2009 grew by 5.3 percent overall, reaching $26.6 billion. Of that figure, $24.8 billion represented organic food, while the remaining $1.8 billion stemmed from sales of organic non-foods. More

Bemis Company reports 2010 first quarter results

Bemis Company, Inc. reported quarterly diluted earnings from continuing operations of $0.27 per share plus diluted earnings from discontinued operations of $0.01 per share for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010. This compares to $0.36 per share for the same quarter of 2009. Excluding the effect of acquisition-related charges, pre-acquisition financing impacts, and 2009 severance charges associated with workforce reductions, as detailed in the attached schedule, "Reconciliation of Non-GAAP Data," diluted earnings per share from continuing operations, as adjusted, would have been $0.48 for the first quarter of 2010 compared to $0.43 for the first quarter of 2009. More
