Nestlé Waters is investing more than £35 million in a new factory in Buxton. The culmination of many years of research and development, the site will be one of Europe's most innovative and efficient bottling facilities when it opens in Spring 2012. The new factory based at Waterswallows in Buxton will, for the first time, combine the Nestlé Waters U.K. bottling facility with a warehousing capability. More

Britton Taco is to install a nine-layer blown film extrusion line in its latest multi-million pound investment. The Winsford, Cheshire-based flexible packaging business in the U.K. will install the Hosakawa-Alpine line next February. For the first time in the U.S., beverages are being filled in aseptic carton packs displaying the FSC label of the Forest Stewardship Council. Johanna Foods has launched 'Earth Wise' brand juices and juice drinks in combibloc Mini 125 and 150 ml carton packs from SIG Combibloc with the FSC label in the U.S. The FSC label verifies that the raw paperboard used to make the carton packs was manufactured using only wood fibers that can be proven to originate from responsibly managed forests certified according to FSC guidelines, or from other controlled sources managed in accordance with FSC standards. Coca Cola Enterprises (CCE) is investing £50 million at three of its UK manufacturing sites – Wakefield, East Kilbride and Sidcup. According to the company, £5.4 million of the total is for projects at its East Kilbride site. These include the introduction of a new energy‑efficient bottle blowing facility that will produce lightweight PET bottles and a state‑of‑the-art packaging machine that removes the need to use cardboard in the packaging of multi-pack products. Waldorf expands technologies for barrier packaging

Automation group Waldorf Technik, based in Engen, Germany, has introduced Check'n Pack, a system for inspecting and verifying the quality of the EVOH layer in PP-EVOH-PP barrier packaging. Injection moulding of this barrier technology has existed for a few years, but Waldorf says there was previously no way of checking that the EVOH barrier layer was fully and equally injected throughout the body of the container. Austrian packaging manufacturer Mondi Napiag expanded its capacity for high barrier film aimed primarily at the food industry. The Zeltweg-based converter has installed a new blown film extruder that enables it to produce films of up to 14 layers, including barrier materials of EVOH and polyamide. The new line broadens the Mondi Napiag product portfolio offering film with higher gloss and transparency than its existing range. More
