Port Authority of NY & NJ
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is hosting a series of business community meetings to inform local businesses and community members about the upcoming Port Authority of New York and New Jersey 2017 MWBE and AC/DBE Disparity Study.
The study will evaluate whether Minority and Woman-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) and Airport Concessions/Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (AC/DBE) have equal access to PANYNJ contracting opportunities. The business community meetings will give businesses the opportunity to ask questions regarding the study and to learn about obtaining MWBE and AC/DBE certification.
Information about the study is available at http://panynjdisparitystudy.com.
The business community meetings will be held in locations in New Jersey, Manhattan, and Queens on July 7 and 8 and Sept. 28 and 29. Here are three ways to get involved:
1. Share your membership e-mail list so that we can directly e-mail your members with information about upcoming meetings
2. Share information about upcoming meetings in your regular e-blasts, e-newsletters, meetings, mailings, or other communications. We will provide the information in electronic format.
3. Set up a display table at any of the meetings and be recognized as a partner (subject to PANYNJ approval)

Amid a sea of beach umbrellas in this Jersey Shore town, Rob Sutton was smiling about more than the sun and sand.
Just days after state lawmakers pressed for an increase in the gasoline tax, drivers across the state got a last-minute reprieve, averting a big bump in gas prices that would have come on the eve of the Fourth of July weekend.
Instead, the proposed increase of 23 cents a gallon is on hold, and Sutton was not complaining. "I understand raising it over a period of time," he said, "but all at once is just too much."

Thousands of construction workers went home from work, unsure if they'd be told to stay home on July 6.
As of the afternoon of July 5, no progress has been announced that would indicate a deal reached in Trenton.
A political battle has erupted into an order by Governor Chris Christie to halt work across the state, if the project is funded by New Jersey's Transportation Trust Fund.
The fund hasn't seen a fresh stream of revenue since 1990.

State regulators are urging a federal agency and others to focus more closely on cost impact to consumers when reviewing and developing projects to build high-voltage transmission lines.

A task force will study vulnerabilities in New Jersey's drinking water sources amid national concerns raised by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
The state Senate gave final unanimous approval on Thursday to a resolution (ACR161) creating a "Joint Legislative Task Force on Drinking Water Infrastructure," a six-member panel directed to draft a report on the state of water resources in the Garden State.

When state lawmakers headed out of Trenton last week for their summer break, they left unresolved the whole issue of funding for the tapped-out Transportation Trust Fund. But that wasn't the only transportation problem that remains to be sorted out: The Legislature has yet to take action on a bill reforming the embattled Port Authority that Gov. Chris Christie conditionally vetoed. And the governor wants to see some action.
And while there will be considerable pressure on Christie and lawmakers to quickly resolve their TTF stalemate over tax cuts in return for a 23-cent increase in the gas tax, the impasse on how aggressively to make changes at the Port Authority in the wake of the Bridgegate scandal could last much longer, possibly through the end of the year.

"We're here to mark another milestone in New Jersey's recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy," said Sen. Bob Menendez.
New Jersey lawmakers fought for the $60 billion Sandy Relief Bill, including more than $10 billion for the new Transit Emergency Relief Program. Today they celebrated the fourth and final installment of that funding: Over $400 million.

With a deal yet to be reached on state Sen. Steve Oroho's proposal to couple a 23-cent per gallon increase in New Jersey's gasoline tax with tax cuts elsewhere, at least one local governing body is wading into the controversy by opposing the measure.
By a 4-0 vote, the Andover Township Committee came out unanimously against the proposal, and all four members of the governing body who voted for it say they stand solidly behind that decision.

A utility company is seeking federal regulators' permission to begin some work on a natural gas compressor station planned on the Chesterfield-Bordentown Township border.
Williams Transco, an Oklahoma utility company, made the request in a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's secretary, Kimberly Bose, specifying that construction activities at the site off Route 528 and the New Jersey Turnpike would be limited to an "upland" portion where the company has already received "all applicable permits and authorizations required."

In a rare step, three former governors who opposed a controversial pipeline in the Pinelands are now trying to block the project by joining litigation against the agency that approved it.
The governors — Brendan Byrne, Jim Florio and Christine Todd Whitman — have filed an amicus brief in support of environmental groups that have challenged the state Board of Public Utilities approval of the 22-mile natural-gas pipeline through parts of the 1 million-acre preserve.
