Helium balloons could cause world shortage, claims British chemist
Global Post

Helium balloons may add a certain festive touch to parties — but a British scientist claims that the decorations could potentially set off a world helium shortage. That's considerably less fun. Increasingly affected by adverse weather, Julie's Bicycle survey finds UK festivals consider weather now an essential part of planning process
Event Industry News
Share

With 57 percent of festivals claiming weather worse than last year, 77 percent list extreme conditions as essential part of contingency planning to prevent the loss in ticket and bar sales and poor audience experience seen this summer. After starting the year facing a severe drought, the U.K.'s summer 2012 turned out to be the wettest on record in a century. This summer rainfall was 370.7 mm compared to a typical summer rainfall of 226.9mm — 60 percent higher than average. With this in mind, Julie's Bicycle, a not for profit working on sustainability within the creative industries, surveyed thirty seven festivals and outdoor events taking place across the U.K. in the summer of 2012.

Lexington Herald-Leader
Share

There really wasn't supposed to be a second Ichthus Festival. As Judy Lyon, widow of festival founder Bob Lyon, and her sons remember it, the only reason there was a second festival was that they made some money on the first one in 1970 and didn't know what to do with it. So they had another one.
